Patient Working Group

Working to ensure that lived experience is valued, and patient voices are heard, amplified and centred as medicinal cannabis access develops, our Patient Working Group shapes all that we do.

One of PLEA’s primary aims is to empower patients to share their experiences with medicinal cannabis.

Patient Advocates are invited to attend monthly, virtual Patient Working Group meetings, where the latest developments and opportunities to contribute to medicinal cannabis patient advocacy are shared.

The aims of the Patient Working Group are to:

  • Identify barriers to access and how these can be addressed

  • Highlight opportunities for Patient Advocates to share their experiences, including in the media and at stakeholder events

  • Produce blogs & testimonials of patient experiences

  • Connect with relevant condition charities to promote education, understanding and further research of medicinal cannabis

  • Offer an interface for stakeholders to consult with patients around research and projects that accelerate access to medicinal cannabis

  • Provide a peer support network for Patient Advocates

Patient Advocate roles are flexible, based on individual needs and preferences. PLEA will support advocates to share their experiences and contribute in a way which works for them, and respect that this will vary for each individual.

As a patient-run organisation, PLEA understands the potential sensitivity of sharing our experiences as patients, as well as the empowerment that can come from this, and therefore offer peer mentoring support to Patient Advocates.

The Patient Working Group is currently full, we will re-open applications as vacancies arise.

As a non-profit organisation, PLEA will only invest in projects that address accelerating access to prescribed CBMPs. We shall advocate for the patient community whilst remaining impartial and are not incentivised, influenced or motivated by financial gain. Our resources are offered to patients free of charge.
