Patient-Led Engagement for Access

For Quality of Life with Medicinal Cannabis

PLEA is a patient-led voluntary non-profit Community Interest Company, established to address the inequalities in access to cannabis-based medicinal products in the UK.

Despite a 2018 schedule change allowing prescribing of medical cannabis, patients are still faced with multiple barriers, including misinformation, stigma, and financial constraints, preventing access to potentially life-changing medicine. With a focus on harm reduction, PLEA works to engage patients, doctors and researchers to remove these barriers to access and accelerate the integration of cannabis medicines within mainstream healthcare.

Strategic Vision

  • PLEA works to normalise and destigmatise the consumption of cannabis for therapeutic purposes.

  • PLEA focuses on harm reduction and advocates for safe legal access to cannabis for therapeutic purposes.

  • PLEA believes that no patient should be criminalised for improving their quality of life.

  • PLEA connects patients, clinicians and researchers to expedite access to NHS prescription cannabis, for those who require it.

  • PLEA offers consultancy to cannabis community stakeholders ensuring patient needs are prioritised for product development, affordability, supply, quality and choice.

  • PLEA ensures that patients' lived experience is valued; voices are heard and centred in all its activities and collaborations.

  • PLEA provides educational resources to assist patients in making informed decisions to meet their individual healthcare needs.

As a non-profit organisation, PLEA will only invest in projects that address accelerating access to prescribed CBMPs. We shall advocate for the patient community whilst remaining impartial and are not incentivised, influenced or motivated by financial gain. Our resources are offered to patients free of charge.
